Developing the Human First
A Dual Football & Academic Scholarship Programme
The Spirit International Football Academy (SIFA) offers talented young South African men the opportunity to pursue their football ambitions while receiving a strong academic education and holistic personal development.
We believe that developing a young footballer starts with developing the young person.
SIFA is therefore more than a football academy. In partnership with the Spirit Foundation Education Programme, SIFA provides a dual football and academic scholarship opportunity at the Cape Academy of Mathematics, Science and Technology (CAMST).
Our goal is not simply to develop good footballers but to equip young men with the skills, education, values and opportunities they need to thrive- both on and off the field.
Our Vision
Football. Education. Mentorship. Opportunity.
SIFA brings together four key areas of development:
Football Development
Scholars receive access to high-quality football development and world-class coaching from experienced and renowned football coaches.
Our programme is designed to develop technical ability, tactical understanding, physical capability, discipline, teamwork and the mindset required to perform at a high level.
We recognise that not every talented footballer will become a professional. Our responsibility is therefore to ensure that every scholar is developing in ways that extend beyond the football pitch.
Academic Development
Through the Spirit Foundation, SIFA scholars receive a strong academic focus alongside their football development.
Scholars attend the Cape Academy of Mathematics, Science and Technology and are supported throughout their high school journey to reach their academic potential.
The goal is for every scholar to matriculate with a strong Bachelor’s pass, opening the door to quality tertiary education and future opportunities.
Football may be the talent that brings a scholar through our doors, but education ensures that their future is not dependent on football alone.
Mentorship & Skills Development
Becoming an excellent footballer is only one part of becoming an excellent young man.
Our mentorship and skills development programme focuses on helping scholars understand themselves, navigate the challenges of adolescence, build healthy relationships, develop emotional intelligence and prepare for life beyond school.
Scholars are encouraged to develop skills such as:
- Critical thinking
- Communication
- Leadership
- Decision-making
- Accountability
- Resilience
- Self-awareness
- Teamwork
- Goal-setting
- Community responsibility
These skills are developed both on and off the field.
Exposure & Opportunity
For many of our scholars, SIFA provides exposure to opportunities and environments that may not otherwise be accessible to them.
We want our scholars to experience more, see more and understand what is possible for their futures.
Through football, education, mentorship, exposure and relationships, we aim to broaden their horizons and give them the confidence to pursue opportunities beyond their current circumstances.
Developing the Whole Scholar
At SIFA, we do not measure success only by goals scored, matches won or football contracts secured.
We ask a bigger question:
Who is the young man becoming?
Our programme is built around the belief that a successful SIFA scholar should leave the programme with more than football ability.
By the time a scholar matriculates, we want him to have:
- Achieved a strong academic foundation and a Bachelor’s pass
- Developed the discipline and work ethic required for further study and employment
- Had the opportunity to pursue his football talent at a higher level
- Developed the confidence and skills to navigate life beyond school
- Become a critical thinker who can make responsible decisions
- Developed an understanding of his role and responsibility within society
- Been exposed to opportunities beyond his immediate environment
- Developed a desire to give back and create opportunities for others
For scholars who demonstrate the potential to continue their football and academic journeys, there may also be opportunities to pursue international football and academic scholarships, furthering both their sporting talent and their education.
Our ultimate vision is to develop young men who go on to become excellent in whatever field they choose - whether that is professional football, tertiary education, business, science, sport or another career.
We want them to become young men who contribute positively to society, share the opportunities they have received and create opportunities for others.
We Develop the Human First
Football is an important part of what we do.
But it is not all that we do.
We don't just focus on football talent. We focus on developing the whole scholar.
How do we recruit our scholars?
SIFA identifies talented young South African footballers from an early age, with our recruitment pathway beginning in the primary school years through our one-touch programme.

The SIFA Journey
SIFA is about creating a pathway.
Talent → Development → Education → Opportunity → Impact
A scholar enters the programme because of his football and academic potential.
He develops through expert coaching, academic support, mentorship and exposure.
He leaves the programme equipped not only to pursue football opportunities, but to continue his education, enter the world of work and contribute meaningfully to society.
Our measure of success is not simply the footballer who leaves SIFA.
It is the young man he becomes.
Football opens the door. Education creates opportunity. Mentorship builds character.
Together, we develop the whole scholar. Building our nation, one scholar at a time
